William Hogarth, 1697 – 1764. Lecture, Arts Society of King’s Lynn
14th April, 2022
Hogarth is mostly thought of as a talented satirist, but there is much more to him than that. Lecturer Linda Smith tracks his career from copper-plate engraver to successful painter, showing a wide variety of images which demonstrate his originality and inventiveness. Above all it is his unparalleled eye for absurdity and human weakness which tells us so much about his time and gives us food for thought about our own.
Linda has two degrees in Art History and a broad knowledge of art historical subjects. She specialises in British Art and 20th century art. An experienced lecturer and guide at Tate Britain and Tate Modern, Linda lectures to a wide variety of audiences in different venues.
Lectures are free to members. Guests are welcome at £7 per lecture by application to the treasurer: taskl.treasurer@gmail.com
